Joseph Stubbersfield

I am an Assistant Professor in Psychology at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

My research focuses on how cognitive biases influence both the content and propagation of information, in particular misinformation, conspiracy theories, urban legends and other contemporary folklore. A recent project at Durham University involved examining the spread of health-related conspiracy theories in the UK and rural Sri Lanka.

My research draws on the fields of cultural evolution, cognitive psychology, social psychology, evolutionary psychology, cognitive anthropology, and social learning.
